Stults wins medal at state x-country meet
LONG ISLAND-A year ago, Cooperstown's Sam Stults attended the cross country state meet as a first alternate, watching the race rather than running. He decided that day he would be back the next season as a competitor. And he did just that, finishing 18th on Saturday at Sunken Meadow Course on Long Island, the highest placement ever for a Cooperstown boys cross country runner at the state meet. Cooperstown cross country coach Jessie Ravage said the hilly course worked to Stults' advantage.

The Redskins are now 3-1 as they enter the tough part of their schedule, including Friday night's 7 p.m. game under the lights and an Oct. 12 visit to Waterville. Cooperstown's only loss of the season was a 14-7 setback to Herkimer, and both Cooperstown and the Marauders enter the game with 3-1 records.

CCS football wins without leading rusher, move to 2-1
One might expect a coach whose team is coming off a 35-12 victory to be happy with his team's performance. But that is not the case with Cooperstown head coach Steve Pugliese, who saw too many turnovers and penalties during his team's relatively easy win over Utica-Notre Dame Saturday to be satisfied. "I'm happy we won, but we're still not playing the caliber of ball we need to play when we meet better teams," Pugliese said. "Some of it is inexperience, and some of it is just mental mistakes."

Cooperstown boys beat Canastota, 68-66
Like any good assassin, Jeremy Holmes is stone-faced. CCS volleyball moves to 19-2
In theory, last night's four set win over Sauquoit was the final home game for Cooperstown volleyball seniors Suzanne and Carolyn Clarvoe, Cindy Mitteager and Ellen Hanson. But there's a good chance the 19-2 Redskins will be home again at least one more time when sectionals begin next week.
