Volleyball to host sectional game Fri.

Staff Report

The Cooperstown volleyball team has received the second seed in the Section Three Class C-1 tournament, and will host seventh seed South Lewis on Friday at 6 p.m. at Bursey gymnasium.

If CCS, 13-6 overall, wins Friday, they will host the winner of the Port Byron-Thousand Islands game on either Tuesday or Wednesday. "Obviously, I'm very excited about getting the number two seed," said Cooperstown head coach Rich Jantzi. "With the class splitting into C-1 and C-2, we avoid Dolgeville, Beaver Rover and Lafayette until the Class C title game.

We got a very good draw."

Tully is the top seed in C-1, and the C-1 title game is scheduled for Feb. 16 at Jamesville-DeWitt High School in Syracuse.

On Monday night, the Lady Redskins lost to Dolgeville for the second time this season in straight sets, 19-25, 24-26 and 8-25.

"We played really well for the first two sets," Jantzi said.

Junior Kim Armstrong had eight aces and 12 assists, while Laura Resnick and Sarah Dewey each had three kills. Katie Horrigan missed most of the match with back spasms, but should be ready to play Friday, Jantzi said.

On Saturday, Cooperstown swept Sherburne, 25-4, 25-7 and 25-19 on Senior night. The game marked the last regular season home game for seniors Kyle Mackie, Laura Resnick, Ali Angerer and Katrin Kronberg.
