Wrestling wins
on Senior Night
Staff Report
The Cooperstown wrestling
team hosted senior night during
their final home meet of
the season on Tuesday night,
a 48-30 victory over Dolgeville.
The five seniors, including
team captains Brock Bell and
Mike Croft, were recognized
before the start of the meet.
Cooperstown wrestling
coach Jim Jordan said Bell
and Croft have been great
team leaders with his young
squad this season.
"They kind of tell them the
do's and don'ts of wrestling,
and help out in the wrestling
room during practices," Jordan
said. "We have a very
young group this season, and
they've been patient and a big
help to me."
Bell won his final home
match by pin, at 152-pounds.
Both Bell and Croft are
four-year wrestlers, as is Robert
Busse, another senior.
"Robert has had a very good
career and is a leader as well,"
Jordan said.
Other seniors include Sara
Ruggiero, a three-year grappler,
and first year wrestler
Doug Kline.
On Saturday at the Unatego
Tournament, Croft had
Cooperstown's best finish, a
third place at 135 pounds.
Croft took a 12-5 decision over
Dan Tower of Franklin Academy
in the third place match.
Freshman Connor Boyle
took a fourth place at 96
pounds, and fellow freshman
George Landon also finished
fourth, at 145 pounds. Landon
also won by pin Tuesday
night.
"We're doing O.K. as a
team," Jordan said. "We're
seeing improvement from the
younger guys, and our experienced
guys are working hard
and trying to make that final
push to really finish matches
strong."
