Coop volleyball
places second at
Hamilton tourney
Staff Report
The Cooperstown volleyball
team narrowly missed winning
its third tournament of
the season, placing second to
host Hamilton by a slim point
differential.
Both CCS and Hamilton
finished with 5-1 records, but
Hamilton scored three more
points than Cooperstown during
the tournament, which
was the tiebreaker.
"We played great all tournament
long and to finish second
was disappointing," said
CCS volleyball coach Rich
Jantzi.
Cooperstown played four
matches in the Pool Play format,
defeating Waterville 25-
10, 25-11 and Mohawk, 25-5
and 25-20. They split their two
sets with Hamilotn, winning
25-22 and losing 19-25.
CCS's Kim Armstrong and
Katie Horrigan were named to
the all-tournament team.
Armstrong had 11 aces, 12
kills and 26 assists, while Horrigan
had 16 aces, 13 kills,
three assists and one block.
Cooperstown played without
senior captain Kyle Mackie
(flu) and Jamie Sharratt.
"Sara Angerer filled in for
Kyle and did a great job with
two aces, seven kills and nine
assists," Jantzi said.
Other highlights for the
Lady Redskins included Sarah
Dewey's four aces and four
kills; Kiersten Pikarsky's six
kills and Laura Resnick's six
kills.
Cooperstown is 5-0 in regular
season matches and 3-0 in
Center State Conference play.
They played Little Falls
Wednesday night and at Richfield
Springs on Friday. On
Monday, they host Dolgeville.
"I fully expect the girls to
come back from Christmas
break eager to go," Jantzi said.
"We have 15 games and one
tournament left. We have a
lot coming up and our schedule
is going to get real hard,
real quick."
