The Cherry Valley-Springfield
boys and girls soccer
teams are both undefeated in
the early season, with the boys
accumulating a 4-0 mark and
the girls improving to 3-0 with
a rare win at Schenevus on
Tuesday.
CV-S girls coach Amy Garretson
said eight different
girls have scored in her team's
first three wins. On Tuesday,
Courtney VanBrink opened
the scoring with an unassisted
goal less than two minutes in,
and Brittany Mabie's second
half goal gave CV-S some
breathing room. Schenevus
entered the game 3-0.
"Schenevus is always a
tough place to play and I don't
think we've had much success
there over the years,' Garretson
said. "I think it's a real
confidence-booster for us.'
The Lady Patriots will host
their annual Booster Club
Tournament this Friday, hosting
Sharon Springs in a first
round game at 8 p.m.
On Tuesday, they will travel
to Milford for a Tri-Valley
East showdown with the
three-time defending Tri-Valley
champions, who won their
opener Tuesday, 9-0, over Laurens.
"Laurens is not a team you
want to take lightly, and we
played super soccer,' Milford
head coach Lorin Campbell
said. "We had a chance to
move a lot of girls around, and
even play some eighth graders.'
Milford will play in the National
Soccer Hall of Fame
Cup on Saturday at 9:30 a.m.,
when they will meet Hamilton.
On Sunday at 1:30 p.m.
they will play New Lebanon.
The tournament will be run a
points system this year.
