Clark Sports Center director Brad Feik is resigning his position on Aug. 31, almost seven years to the day he was hired.
A 1978 Cooperstown graduate, Feik is the seventh director in the 116-year history of the facility, which was originally known as the ACC Gymnasium.
Feik took over as director on Sept. 5, 2000.
A press release from the Clark Foundation said Feik resigned to pursue other opportunities in nonprofit or public service administration. On Tuesday, Feik declined to comment further.
During the search for Feik’s replacement, Val Paige will serve as acting director, according to the press release.
Clark Foundation President Jane Forbes Clark said she was thankful for Feik’s contributions during his tenure.
``Brad’s energy and leadership have been invaluable to the Clark Sports Center and we will miss him, but wish him every success in his new endeavors,’’ she said.
Clark Foundation Executive Director Charles Hamilton said a nationwide search would likely be conducted to find Feik’s replacement.
``There is no timetable,’’ Hamilton said. ``It could take three days and it could take six months.’’
Feik was previously the Director of Operations at Pathfinder Village in Edmeston, and also spent 10 years in the sports and recreation field in Ohio and Phoenix. Feik replaced Bart Morrison, who resigned as director in July of 1999.
The gym has been in existence since 1891, and significantly expanded and moved from Main St. to its current location on Susquehanna Ave in 1986.
It features a large gymnasium, swimming and diving pools, an indoor track, racquetball and squash courts, extensive playing fields, indoor and outdoor ropes courses, an eight-lane bowling facility, tennis courts and a state-of-the-art fitness area.
