Travolta to attend ceremony
Staff Report
There's no word if he'll be
dancing in the aisles, but actor
John Travolta is on inductee
Cal Ripken's guest list for
Sunday's Hall of Fame Induction
Ceremony.
Travolta and his wife Kelly
Preston, also an actress, are
friends of Ripken, said Hall of
Fame spokesman Jeff Idelson.
"They met when Travolta
came to Camden Yards to do a
"Grease" presentation at Camden
Yards and became
friends," Idelson said. "It's not
surprising to see baseball stars
become friends with stars from
other entertainment realms."
Travolta shot to fame in the
1970s disco movie "Saturday
Night Fever" and later starred
in the musical "Grease" with
Olivia Newton-John.
More recently, he made a
comeback in 1994's "Pulp Fiction"
and is currently starring
in the comedy/ musical "Hairspray"
with Michelle Pfeiffer.
Another movie star, Richard
Gere, and NASCAR driver
Dale Jarrett are also rumored
to be attending Sunday's ceremony
although the Crier could
not confirm it.
There has been specualtion
in town that President Bush
would be attending Sunday's
ceremony, but Idelson said he
declined an invitation and will
not be attending.

this weekend are a record 53
