Hall to salute ’67 Red Sox
The National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum will host a daylong salute to the 1967 Boston Red Sox on Saturday, April 14 in Cooperstown, featuring the appearances of former Red Sox players Jim Lonborg and Rico Petrocelli, who will participate in a book signing and a special members-only "Voices of the Game Series" event.
Tickets for the "Voices of the Game" program will first be available to members for purchase beginning Monday, March 19.
In the 3 p.m. "Voices of the Game" discussion hosted by baseball historian Curt Smith, Lonborg and Petrocelli will speak about their lives and careers and one of the most storied seasons in Red Sox history.
Tickets to the "Voices of the Game" program are $10 for adults and $5 for children and must be purchased in advance by calling the Membership department at 547-0397. The event includes a photo with Lonborg and Petrocelli.
Earlier in the day at 10 a.m., the Red Sox duo will be available to sign copies of Petrocelli’s new book, "Rico Petrocelli’s Tales from the Impossible Dream Red Sox."
As with all museum book signings, Lonborg and Petrocelli will only sign copies of Petrocelli’s book or the book "The 1967 Impossible Dream Red Sox: Pandemonium on the Field." Autographs are limited to three books per person, and no photos or memorabilia will be permitted.
Two other events round out the 1967 Red Sox 40th Anniversary Celebration. At noon, a two-hour author roundtable and fan forum will feature panelists David Laurila, Bill Nowlin and Saul Wisnia, among others to be announced, as they discuss "The 1967 Impossible Dream Red Sox: Pandemonium on the Field." The Red Sox scholars will participate in a lively session regarding the 1967 Red Sox season, before opening the program for input and discussion with fans in the audience.
Immediately following the program, at 2 p.m., the panelists will be available for a signing of their book, "The 1967 Impossible Dream Red Sox: Pandemonium on the Field," edited by Bill Nowlin.
Immediately following the "Voices of the Game" program, series host and broadcast expert Curt Smith will participate in a book signing of his classic tome about baseball broadcasters, "Voices of Summer," as well as his newest title, "The Voice: Mel Allen’s Untold Story."
