Josh White seems to be peaking at the right time.
White won the 145-pound weight class at the Center State Conference league tournament on Saturday with a 9-4 decision over Canastota’s Sean Wilkinson in the final.
Coupled with two other wins Saturday, White is now 25-3 on the season heading to Saturday’s Section Three Class C qualifier at Sandy Creek. The top four finishers in each weight class will advance to the sectional finals scheduled for Sunday, Feb. 18 at the Utica Auditorium.
``It’s been Josh’s goal since the ninth grade to make the state tournament,’’ said CCS wrestling coach Jim Jordan. ``He’s got a very legitimate chance to do it this year, but there are always a number of variables involved.’’
The state tournament will be held at the Pepsi Arena in Binghamton on March 2-3.
White advanced to Saturday’s final with a pin of Herkimer’s Nathan Stranges in the semifinal round and a technical fall victory over Kyle Grassler of Dolgeville in the quarterfinals.
Jordan said at this time of year a wrestler’s motto is ``win and move on.’’
``It doesn’t matter how much you win by or how you win,’’ Jordan said. ``You have to be careful not to make mistakes and pile up points. You have to be conservative but take advantage of you opportunities.’’ [an error occurred while processing this directive]
