CCS boys pull major upset; girls lose, 62-60

A day after the Cooperstown boys basketball team defeated a previously undefeated team, the Cooperstown girls basketball team almost did the same, losing a 62-60 decision to Little Falls Friday night.

Cooperstown junior center capped a huge night, tying the score at 60 with her 27th and 28th points, and CCS got the ball back with just under five seconds remaining.

But Little Falls’ Alie Dobrovok stole an in-bound pass and converted a winning lay-up to send the large home crowd home in shock. Little Falls improved to 18-0 on the season.

``It was an exciting game throughout and we played much better than the last time we played them,’’ said Cooperstown girls basketball coach Frank Miosek. ``I think we showed them we can play with them and earned their respect.’’

Fox finished with 28 points, 14 rebounds and four blocks for the Lady Redskins, who fell to 12-6 overall.

CCS has just one league loss, however, and can clinch the CSC Division II with victories at Mt. Markham Friday night and home against Waterville Monday.

Cooperstown’s scheduled home game with Waterville Tuesday was cancelled as Waterville did not have school Tuesday.

Jennifer Wehner added 14 points, 12 rebounds and two blocks for Cooperstown, while Abby Hull had eight points. [an error occurred while processing this directive]
