Mets-Orioles to play in Fame Game May 21

Staff Report

It’s a miracle.

The New York Mets and Baltimore Orioles will play in the 2007 Hall of Fame Game on May 21 at Doubleday Field.

For those old enough to remember, the game will be a flashback to the 1969 World Series played between the teams, won by the ``Miracle Mets’’ in five games.

The Hall of Fame Game was first played in 1940, and was originally played the day after the annual Induction Ceremony in July, but for the past several years has been played on a separate weekend.

``We’re honored that Major League Baseball continues to send two teams to Cooperstown each summer,’’ said Hall of Fame spokesman Brad Horn. ``This year, we have two teams whose fans are within driving distance and have very passionate fan bases.’’

Cooperstown will likely be seeing a lot of Baltimore fans this summer, as Cal Ripken, Jr. is a near lock for election when voting results are announced Jan. 9.

Tickets for the annual Hall of Fame Game will first be made available on Saturday, Feb. 17. Horn said ticket prices have increashed slightly, with first and third base seats going for $12.50 asnd outfield seats for $11. Approximately 1,500 seats will be made available in the annual on-site ticket sale at the museum, beginning at 10 a.m., while members will have an exclusive opportunity to purchase tickets over the Internet at www.baseballhalloffame.org or by calling 888-HALL-OF-FAME, also beginning at 10 a.m. Tickets are limited to six per customer.

New York will be the home team and will occupy the first base dugout at Doubleday Field. Baltimore will occupy the third base dugout as the road team. Doubleday Field has a seating capacity of 9,571.

The Hall of Fame Game will begin at 2 p.m., with pre-game festivities starting at noon with the Hall of Fame Game Day Parade on Main Street and the always-popular Home Run Derby at 1 p.m. at Doubleday Field. The Mets were one game away from the World Series last year, losing to the St. Louis Cardinals in seven games in the National League Championship Series. The Orioles suffered through another losing season in 2006.[an error occurred while processing this directive]
