Area soccer stars honored

Staff Report

Milford junior Brenna Campbell and Cooperstown junior Anna Kieler earned first-team honors in Class D and C, respectively, from the New York State Sportswriters and Coaches Association.

Another Milford junior, Maria Arnot, and Downsville junior Stephanie Shellman each earned second-team recognition in Class D.

Cooperstown and Milford played to a 1-1 draw in a non-league game in October, with Kieler and Arnot scoring the goals.

Sophomores Chelsea Haight of Davenport and Stephanie Meno of Sidney were third team picks _ Haight in Class D and Meno in Class C.

Two senior defenders also made the all-state teams. Milford’s Corrine Ketzlick was a second-team pick in Class D and Cooperstown’s Rachael Kuch was a third-team pick in Class C.

"That’s pretty exciting," said Campbell, who had 33 goals and 17 assists in leading the Wildcats to their first Section Four Class D championship. "I didn’t expect it."

Ketzlick will be the only senior starter lost to graduation for Milford.

Milford’s 19-2-2 season ended in a 2-1 overtime loss to McGraw in state quarterfinal.

"It’s all a team effort," said Campbell, who scored the lone goal in Milford’s 1-0 victory over Davenport in the Section Four final. "It was exciting (to win the sectional title). No one really expected it." [an error occurred while processing this directive]
