CV moratorium hearing Monday

Cooperstown senior Becky Fisher broke her own school record in a six-dive home meet against Delhi on Friday at the Clark Sports Center with a score of 229.25.

It was quite a weekend for Fisher, who was also named Homecoming Queen.

``It’s been fun,’’ Fisher said Tuesday. ``Breaking the record was one of my goals this season .’’

Fisher has been recruited by Division One schools Colgate and Navy as well as Division III power Hamilton, and said she is also exploring other college offers.

Fisher said the next goal this season is to qualify for the state meet, which will be held at a site to be determined in mid-November.

Divers need a score of 395 combined while performing 11 dives at sectionals to make the state meet.

``That’s 15 points higher than last year, so it’s going to be tough,’’ Fisher said. ``I’m just taking the philosophy of trying to keep improving and not getting my hopes too high.’’

Sectionals, which will be held in November in Utica, are an 11-dive meet.

Approximately 50 girls will start, and half will be eliminated after the first few dives. Cuts continue until the field is pared down to 16 girls. Only these 16 will complete all 11 dives.

``My goal is to get 400 points,’’ Fisher said. ``If I could somehow pull that off I’d get to the state meet which would be amazing.’’
