The Cooperstown football team is nothing if not resilient

After a 35-0 loss two weeks ago, and a potentially devastating overtime loss to Mt. Markham last week, the Redskins bounced back with a dominating 20-7 victory over Little Falls on Saturday at Lambert Field. The victory improves Cooperstown's record to 3-2 overall and keeps alive their postseason playoff hopes. CCS will host Adirondack Friday night at 7 p.m. for their Homecoming Game, and then travel to Sauquoit Saturday, Oct. 21 in the regular season finale. The Redskins need to win both games in order to have a shot at making sectionals. On Saturday, Cooperstown scored all 20 of its points in the second quarter, with quarterback Frank Petroskey getting the first score on a one-yard touchdown run on the first play of the second quarter. The touchdown was set up by a fumble recovery by senior Eric Coe after Little Falls muffed a punt on their own 30-yard line. The Redskins scored on their final two possessions of the second half to put the game out of reach. First, senior Lucas Niedzialkowski found the end zone on a one-yard run, and just 30 seconds before halftime, fellow senior Brian Segit hauled in a pass between two Mounties defenders, remained on his feet after being hit and ran in for a 40-yard touchdown. ``We were kind of flat in the second half, and one thing we want to work on is playing all 48 minutes,'' said CCS head coach Steve Pugliese. ``But this was a good team win, we had a lot of players do some good things out there.'' The Redskins should have their hands full with Adirondack, who beat Mt. Markham 24-21 on Saturday, on Friday night. ``They have a lot of weapons, and they're probably the most talented team in the league,'' Pugliese said. ``We're more than capable of winning the game, but we have to limit turnovers and try and control the line of scrimmage. The Mt. Markham loss put us in a situation where we have to win all our games, and we have to continue to fight out of that hole.''
