CHERRY VALLEY-In a word, the Cherry Valley-Springfield boys soccer team seems to be clicking.

The Patriots recorded their third straight shutout victory on Tuesday with an impressive 6-0 thumping of Tri-Valley East rival Worcester. With the win, moved to 4-1 on the season and appear to the team to be in the T-V East this season.

"I can't stress enough how well we're playing as a team," said CV-S boys head coach Terri Adams. "We're well balanced, we support each other on the field, and I can substitute quite often and not miss a beat."

In Tuesday's win, both John Odbert and Luke Sikkema scored two goals each, and Jesse Miller and Dan Blanchard added one each. The Patriots opened up a 4-0 halftime lead.

CV-S also captured the championship of the Cherry Valley-Springfield Booster Club Tournament last weekend, as Mathias VanDerwerker recorded back-to-back shutouts and was named the Most Valuable Player of the tournament.

The Patriots defeated Madison, 2-0, in the final as Vanderwerker made three saves and John Odbert and David Adams provided the scoring.

Odbert, who also scored in an opening round 4-0 victory over Sharon Springs, was named to the all-tournament team along with teammates Spencer Staley and Jake Hanlon.

Vanderwerker made 14 saves in Friday's opening round win.

CV-S plays at Laurens, also undefeated in T-V play, at 4:30 p.m. Friday.

CV-S girls fall to 3-3

The CV-S girls soccer team lost a tough, 2-1, decision on the road to Worcester Tuesday.

The Wolverines scored the winning goal with just over six minutes remaining. Maggie Milner's first half goal provided all the scoring for the Lady Patriots.

During last weekend's CV-S Booster Club Tournament, MVP Kelly Gannon scored all three goals for Schoharie in its 3-1 title-game victory over the host school.

The Patriots' Jenny Bowen opened the scoring five minutes into play, finding a seam through a crowd of players after a corner kick.

Meg Shirey, Kim Daley and Marna Taylor made the all-tournament team for the Patriots.
