Coop boys, girls win hoop league

Both the Cooperstown boys and girls teams wrapped up championships of the Clark Sports Center's summer high school basketball league last week, and both finished undefeated in the league as well.

The Cooperstown girls went 7-0, including a close, 43-40 victory over Worcester in the championship game last Wednesday. Kaitlin Cring had a team-high 13 points to lead Cooperstown, while Jen Wehner had 11.

Wehner won the league scoring title by a wide margin, averaging 16.9 points-a-game. Worcester's Sarah Grantier had a game-high 26 points, and finished second in the league in scoring with 11 a game.

The Cooperstown boys defeated Richfield, 56-40 to win the league title.

Chris Gentile had 24 points and Jim Jennings added 20 in the victory. Gentile led the league in scoring, averaging 19 a contest, while Jennings finished second with a 17 points-a-game average. The Cooperstown boys were also 7-0 on the season.

In other girls games, Cobleskill defeated Delhi 31-15 as Ali Brayton had 10 in the win and Meghan Taylor nine in the loss.

Cobleskill also beat Laurens, 33-17 behind a game-high 12 points from Chelsea Jordan. Jenna Robbins had four in a losing effort.

Delhi bounced back to defeat Richfield, 27-11, in the other game as Megan Cantwell led the way with eight points. Brittany Oakes had five in the loss.

In other boys action, Milford edged Sharon Springs, 40-32, as Ron Alston scored 11 for the winners, and Holden Davenport a game-high 15 in the loss.

Ft. Plain won by forfeit over Edmeston.
