Swim team members head to sectionals

Staff Report

SYRACUSE-Nine swimmers and two divers will represent the Cooperstown girls swim team at the Section Three Championships at Nottingham High School this week.

First year head coach Sally Zaengle said sophomore Bridgette Quinn probably has the best shot at qualifying for the state meet in the 100 freestyle. The top three swimmers from each section in each event will qualify for the state meet.

Quinn also is hoping to set a new school record in the 100 freestyle at sectionals, Zaengle said.

"Bridgette is an outstanding swimmer and has worked very, very hard this year," Zaengle said. "She deserves to reach those goals."

Cooperstown will also send two divers to sectionals, including senior Amie Rowland, who set a pair of school and leagiue records this year. Rowland set the marks in the six dive and 11 dive competition. She accumulated 177.75 points in the six dive and 326.26 in the 11-dive competition. Rowland will be joined in the diving competition by Jen Hensley, a freshman, who also qualified for sectionals.

Other swimmers beside Quinn who qualfied for Cooperstown include Caitrin Coccoma, Amelia Garcia, Katrina Pier, Bailey Gardner, Katie Scrafford, Becky Gill, Emily Hull and Emily Additon.

The 200 freestyle relay team of Quinn, Coccoma, Garcia and Pier also set a school record of 1:51.71 during the season.

Cooperstown finished 6-2 in MAC league play, losing twice to Delhi.
