CV-S girls soccer team searches for consistency

In what could turn out to be a preview of the girls Tri-Valley Championship Game, the Cherry Valley-Springfield girls soccer team let a 2-0 halftime lead slip away, losing 3-2 in Cherry Valley last Thursday.

The game was actually a microcosm of the Lady Patriots' season, which has been filled with ups and downs.

"We're a young but talented team, and sometimes that inexperience shows and sometimes we can dominate a game," said CV-S girls soccer coach Terri Adams. "We played beautifully against Schenevus in the first half, but lost our aggressiveness in the second half."

Adams said a questionable call that led to a penalty shot goal for the Dragons took some of the wind out of her team.

"I was dumbfounded by that call," she said.

The Lady Patriots took control in the first half behind goals from Christina Titus and Maddie Godman.

"We have about five girls who are scoring goals for us, which makes us a hard team to mark and gives us a nice balanced attack," Adams said. "The one thing we're working on right now is to stay aggressive for the entire game."

CV-S is now 5-4-1 overall and 3-2 in league play, and will likely have to win the remainder of their league games to have a shot at the Tri-Valley Large title.

"We'd like to think we still have a shot at it," Adams said. "We certainly have the ability to do it."

CV-S did bounce back to take a 6-1 victory over Morris on Monday, and hosted Milford Wednesday before traveling to Worcester on Friday. G-MU hosted Tri Valley Small leading Schenevus on Wednesday, a game CV-S needs Schenevus to win.

G-MU defeated CV-S in the first league game of the season and travel to Cherry Valley Oct. 5 for a 7:30 p.m. Homecoming Game under the lights. That game may go a long way toward deciding the T-V Large champion.

The Milford girls soccer team continued their solid season with a 1-0 victory over Laurens on Monday, as sophomore Shannon Weir scored the lone goal in the second half.
