Many local runners completed the 24th annual Boilermaker 15K road race, billed as the largest 15K race in the United States last Sunday in Utica.

Among the thousands of entrants was four-time New York City and Boston Marathon champion Bill Rodgers and 1972 Olympic gold medalist marathon runner Frank Shorter.

Richfield Springs' Rob Anderson turned in the fastest time of local runners, finishing in 55 minutes and 40 seconds, while Kane Seamon of Richfield, who will be a high school junior in the fall, turned in a time of 59:35. Merle Myerson of Fly Creek had the fastest women's time of 1:02:55.

Cooperstown cross country coach Jessie Ravage attends the race annually, but said she does not run so she can watch the top-flight competition.

"It's really a unique chance to see world class runners," Ravage said.
