MILFORD-Extreme Rage, a girls soccer team from Cherry Valley, won an indoor soccer tournament at Milford High School on Saturday, defeating a team from Cooperstown, OMRICH II, in the final by a score of 1-0.

CV-S eighth grader Maddie Godman had the lone goal, while goalkeeper Celia Garretson recorded the shutout. The Cherry Valley team was comprised of one junior, two sophomores and the rest were eighth and ninth graders.

"This group of girls was hand-picked for this tournament because they play so well together," said Extreme Rage head coach Crista Whiteman. "The girls came to the tournament with winning it all on their mind, and that's what they were able to do."

The Rage defeated two Cooperstown teams made up of last year's varsity team in the semifinals and finals.

OMRICH II advanced to the finals by defeating Davenport in the semifinals, 3-1. Stephanie Smith had two goals and Jamie Vajda one goal in that game. In their first game, OMRICh II defeated South Kortright, 3-1, behind goals from Liz May, Smith and Vajda. Amy Kane had 13 saves in goal. After a forfeit win in the second game, OMRICH II then tied 1-1 with a team from Schenevus.

Another Cooperstown team, OMRICH I, was also knocked out of the tournament by the Extreme Rage team, with a 1-0 loss in the semifinals.

The OMRICH I team also lost to the Extreme Rage team earlier in the tournament by a 3-2 score, despite goals from Ani Scalici and Mia McChesney.

OMRICH I defeated both the Milford I team, 6-2, and the Davenport Cats, 6-0, in other contests. against Milford, Erin Collier and Whitney Selover each notched two goals, while Scalici and McChesney each had one goal. Against Davenport, Alissa Valentine had a hat trick with three goals, Natalie Bowers added a pair of scores and Scalici also scored.

While the OMRICH I and II teams were comprised of last year's CCS varsity team, the last Cooperstown girls team, OMRICH III, was a junior varsity team from last year. They lost all three games, but gained valuable experience playing against varsity level teams, said head coach Carol Bennett. Bennett said Amanda Licata and Kayla Banner played well offensively, while Jen Smith, Flannery Wright, Jess Collier, Shirley Tyler and Kristin Leonard all had solid defensive games in the tournament.

The Cooperstown boys also had a team in the tournament, CMT, which lost in the finals in a shootout to South Kortright. Dominic Werther scored two goals, and Stephen Zeek and Liam Dwyer one each in the loss, while Brett Wilhelm had 19 saves in goal.

In other games, CMT defeated Charlotte Valley, 5-0, South Kortright, 3-1 and the Milford Seniors, 4-0, in the semifinals.

Against Davenport, Zeek had three goals, and Liam Murphy-Hoffman and Brett Pikarsky each scored one. Wilhelm had 13 saves and Matt Leslie had one of his five assists in the tournament.

Murphy-Hoffman, Zeek and Leslie all scored against SK, while Werther had two goals, and Zeek and Dwyer one each against Milford.

The final tournament of the season is this Saturday in Edmeston.
