Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa:  (December 21, 2006) At this holiday season, we take great pleasure in reprinting one of the classic newspaper editorials of all time _ perhaps the best Christmas editorial ever written. November 2006
Shop Locally:  (November 24, 2006) This time of year it’s like a mantra _ repeated over and over in editorials and advertisements. It is, after all, the Christmas shopping season. And with the same clockwork that sees people emerge from their homes, shopping list in hand as they try to fulfill everyone’s holiday wishes, editors and copywriters drag out the shop locally idea and run it and re-run it until it begins to sound like a broken record.

Take time to vote Tuesday:  (November 2, 2006) Tuesday is Election Day and once again we urge everyone to go to the polls to cast their vote.

Scam story a cautionary tale:  (September 14, 2006) The Rozella family in Hartwick narrowly managed to avoid being duped this week, and their tale is a lesson for everyone who owns a small business.

August 2006

Time to address Main St. issues:  (August 24, 2006) The congestion on Main Street this summer seems worse than ever.

Don't care attitude:  (August 17, 2006) Six months after the Fly Creek fire commissioners heard from the fire department's chief that his firefighters had a 'don't care' attitude and may not respond to calls unless it was their walls which were hot, the commissioners again heard from their fire chief.

Moratorium vote was wrong:  (August 10, 2006) Cherry Valley town board members Fabian Bressett and Jim Johnson made the wrong decision on the 12-month moratorium on major development.

Steroid era to begin for Hall:  (August 3, 2006) This year's Hall of Fame Induction ceremony was all about looking back in time, but now that it's over we can't help looking ahead to next year. The 2007 Induction, which will almost certainly feature Cal Ripken, Jr. and Tony Gwynn, has been highly anticipated for years.

Area volunteers made difference:  (July 6, 2006) Amid the washed out roads, flooded basements and general mayhem the heavy rains produced last week, there was one constant that deserves everyone's appreciation and respect.

June 2006

An impressive, lasting legacy:  (June 22, 2006) Graduation season is once again upon us, and we're struck this year by the student/athletes in the area who will graduate at the top of their respective classes.

April 2006
Roses and Raspberries:  (April 27, 2006) Roses to the Otesaga Hotel for its willingness to correct the mistake it made with its new shutters. Granted, the hotel should have applied to the planning board before going ahead with the installation of the shutters as part of the siding replacement project.

Better budgeting needed at CCS:  (April 20, 2006) Last week, the Cooperstown Central School was taken to task by a resident over the amount of unappropriated fund balance the district was carrying.
