Get involved
in hall process
Mike Cring has done the hard part, now it's up to
the public to do the fun part.
Cring, Cooperstown's athletic director and
chairman of the athletic hall of fame committee, will
be accepting nominations for the inaugural class
until March 15.
We join him in urging community members to get
involved, research possible candidates, and make
submissions.
The first year is more of a challenge for community
members and the committee, as electees will be
chosen only from pre-1970s graduates and other
candidates such as coaches, boosters and
administrators.
But remembering and honoring the contributions
of those who set the standard at Cooperstown is one
of the great aspects of starting the athletic hall of
fame.
The first class should be an important history
lesson for current players, coaches and fans of high
school athletics at Cooperstown.
The public should consider those individuals who
through their accomplishments have brought pride
and distinction to CCS and the community either as
an athlete, coach, administrator, or as a contributor
to the development and success of the athletic
program.
Nomination forms can be picked up at the high
school office or downloaded off the internet from the
school's website, cooperstowncs.org. Electees or
their families will be notified of their election in
April, and an induction banquet will be held for the
inaugural class in October.
We look forward to the first class of inductees and
praise Cring and the school for starting the hall of
fame at Cooperstown.
Some have questioned why the hall of fame should
be limited to just athletics, and maybe in the future
someone at the school will follow Cring's lead and
find a way to honor academic Hall of Famers at
Cooperstown as well.
