Roses and Raspberries

Roses to Paula Wikoff and the crew of the new Otsego Lake tour boat the Glimmerglass Queen. While on a shakedown cruise, they spotted and pulled from the cold water two boaters who had been thrown out of their craft which was continuing to run in circles around them with its motor at full speed. The two men were saved thanks to the quick action on the part of their rescuers, but the incident should serve as a reminder to make sure all safety equipment is aboard and procedures are understood before setting out on the lake.

Roses to Cooperstown athletes Nick Feinberg, Reid Snyder and Finn Dusenbery, who all qualified for state competition last week.

Feinberg shot a 43 at Seven Oaks Golf Course in Hamilton on Saturday, which coupled with his 89 from Thursday, was good enough to send him to the state golf tournament.

Feinberg will play at Cornell University on Sunday and Monday.

Snyder and Dusenbery qualified for the state tennis tournament together—as members of the first doubles team for Cooperstown. They will travel to Flushing Meadow, site of the U.S. Open, for opening round games today and will continue through Saturday as long as they keep winning.

The best part? They are all juniors, meaning they have a chance to do it all over again. Congratulations to these athletes who are among the best in the state.

Roses to a new organization, Rich Spa, for organizing a farmers' market in Richfield Springs which will begin on Thursday, June 5 and will continue through October.

Approximately 10 venders will be participating. Local products and produce such as jellies and jams, meadow grown meats, eggs, potatoes and baked goods will be available.

This serves as a great opportunity to support local businesses and farmers in the Leatherstocking region.

Roses to area students such as senior Brianna Hawes of Cherry Valley - Springfield who will be leaving their mark as they graduate high school in June.

Hawes has been recently working on a mural of the world, which is the third painting she has created on the school walls.

With a supporting scholastic atmosphere, students are given the opportunity to pursue talents and interests that otherwise might not be possible.
