In These Otsego Hills
This year, as we prepared
to write our annual Cooperstown
Carol, which has for
many years touched on the
events of the village, we assumed,
given the wealth of issues
swirling about, that the
carol would fairly write itself.
Alas, that did not seem to be
the case.
In fact, we found we were
unable to put pen to paper to
record the events of the year.
Instead we were drawn to an
attitude, which we found to be
vaguely troubling, which we
seem to have noticed of late.
We readily admit that it is
quite possible that this attitude
has been around for a
while, but that we, in our ever
advancing age, just took note
of it recently.
Therefore, this week we
present, with apologies to O
Come All Ye Faithful, our annual
Cooperstown Carol,
which, in a change of pace, focuses
more on what has been
perceived as the year’s attitude
instead of the year’s
events ...
O come, all ye fans
Of America’s pastime.
O come ye, O come ye to
Cooperstown.
Bring bags of money
To spread around.
O come, share your treasure,
O come, share your treasure,
O come, share your treasure,
We need the revenue now.
O come, all ye visitors,
Joyful with anticipation,
O come ye, O come ye to
Cooperstown.
Bring all your quarters
For our pay and display
machines.
O come, pay for our parking,
O come, pay for our parking,
O come, pay for our parking,
We need the revenue now.
O come, all ye students
With your forward thinking.
O come ye, O come ye to
Cooperstown.
Tell us anew
Just what planning we
should do.
O come, site a parking
structure.
O come, site a parking
structure,
O come, site a parking
structure,
We need the revenue now.
O come all ye shoppers
Enjoy the Christmas season.
O come ye, O come ye to
Cooperstown.
Look at our lights
Glowing all days and
nights.
O come, see us save electricity,
O come, see us save electricity,
O come, see us save electricity,
To save the revenue now.
O come all ye parkers,
Ignore the two hour limit.
O come ye, O come ye to
Cooperstown.
Leave your car upon the
street;
The hefty fine will be so
sweet.
O come, get a parking ticket,
O come, get a parking ticket,
O come, get a parking ticket,
We need the revenue now.
O come everyone
Visit the most perfect village.
O come ye, O come ye to
Cooperstown.
Where everything
Will soon have its own price
tag.
O come, give us your fortune,
O come, give us your fortune,
O come, give us your fortune,
We need the revenue now.
Wishing you a joyous holiday
season,
We remain,
In these Otsego hills,
