So It Goes

By CASEY CAMPBELL

Staff Writer

Instead of the regular thematic masterpiece on some aspect of life, this week it’s all about the housekeeping. Doesn’t exactly make for the most exciting reading material, but it’s occasionally necessary.

First and foremost is a firm recommendation that readers of my column turn to our website www.coopercrier.com when looking for a dose of the doofy. Because we’re a newspaper with a limited amount of space devoted to copy, sometimes articles get chopped.

This was the case last week when, regrettably, space constraints resulted in my column facing the executioner’s block. A chunk of the narrative leading up to my capture at the hands of the evil oral surgeon vanished into the netherworld of words, as well as sporadic lines scattered throughout the column.

Certainly not essential for the column to work, but its absence made the read a little more jarring than the smoothly transitioned piece I deluded myself into thinking I had crafted.

Look at the online version as the director’s uncut edition. Not necessarily better or more interesting, but appearing exactly as it was intended in all its unadulterated glory.

Speaking of our website (wow that’s a smooth segue), recently hired webmaster Jason Whitney and I have been working overtime lately to keep the site fresh, clean and oh so sparkly. Ok, so Jason does all the actual work and I just kind of make helpful suggestions, but you get the idea.

We’ve been talking about adding some additional content to the site in the near future. Hopefully soon, you’ll be able to read all of our regular columnists online, not just the few we’ve got up there now.

Neither Jason, nor I are perfect however, and we’re sure to miss things along the way. If we do, send him an email at webmaster@thedailystar.com or fire one to me at crier@csdsl.net. And by all means, if you have ideas or suggestions at how we can better operate the site, send those along too.

Again, you’ll have to forgive me for this housekeeping entry, but it felt like the right week. Between the endless shoveling and the mountain of dishes I finally conquered this weekend, it’s been a chores-intensive week.

And now that I’ve got this column out of the way, that’s one more chore swept under the rug until next week.
