My Own Resolution

By CASEY CAMPBELL

Staff Writer

As much as I belittle and revile New Year’s resolutions, I’ve got one of my own this time around. Ridiculous, yes, and in all probability an eventual failure like most others, but an ironclad decree for the moment nonetheless.

In this year 2007, I, Casey Campbell, resolve to claim my rightful place as the Cooperstown area’s "Biggest Loser."

While in fact I’m in the running for this title on multiple fronts (and the clear favorite in the "Darts," "Bowling" and "Social Interaction" categories), for the sake of brevity I’m only referring to weight loss.

Yes folks, I’ve joined the multitudes of overweight Oreo chompers who resolve to start losing weight just because the number on the calendar changed.

Although I don’t have to roll myself around town just yet, my BMI (body mass index) is firmly in the "obese" category and I could certainly stand to drop a chunk of my trunk.

Assisting me in this endeavor is the Clark Sports Center and their annual incentive-based program "Pound by Pound."

For non-gym members who don’t know about the program (or gym members who haven’t heard about it because, like me, they desperately avoid exercising there as often as possible), Pound by Pound is a three-month long program the Sports Center holds in January to spur people to start the new year actively.

It’s simple and straightforward. You weigh in officially in the fitness center between now and Jan. 12 and weigh in again during the first or second week of April. For each pound you lose during that span, you receive $2 off your next membership invoice. [an error occurred while processing this directive]
