DEC: Closing of site correct
The Department of Environmental Conservation Region Four Director Gene Kelly has told the village that the agency acted properly when the DEC removed the former Mobil gas station on Chestnut Street from its active spill listing.

Budget work to start early
The Cooperstown Central School Board of Education will begin its budget planning for the 2008-09 school year earlier than normal with a work session that will be held on Thursday, Nov. 1, in the middle/ high school cafeteria at 7 p.m. Parents and district residents are being encouraged to participate.

CCS reacts to MRSA concerns

Bicentennial parade 'fantastic'
Grace Kull, bicentennial chairperson and co-marshal of the ``Cooperstown through the Years'' parade, said her biggest worry for the festivities planned for the kickoff of a weeklong celebration of Cooperstown's incorporation was rain. However, Mother Nature held off, despite a few sprinkles in the park, and didn't upset the community gathering for a parade and picnic at Lakefront Park Saturday.

Louisville may be home to second Dreams Park
According to a story Monday in the Louisville Courier Journal, it appears the Kentucky city that is the home of famed bat maker Louisville Slugger may also become the home of Louis Presutti's second Dreams Park.

Food Bank is in need of help

Bicentennial event to have Clydesdales
William Cooper founded the Village of Cooperstown in 1786; however, the village was not legally incorporated until April 3, 1807. At the time, there were 133 houses, 57 barns and 686 residents, according to Census 2000.

Clydesdales always 'on the go'
The Clydesdales are here. The beverage industry's most recognizable mascots, the Anheuser-Busch Budweiser Clydesdales, are no strangers when it comes to appearing in parades and other special events, according to East Coast Hitch supervisor Hans Jager.

HARTWICK SEMINARY _ After some contentious negotiations with the New York State Department of Transportation, the Cooperstown Dreams Park has decided to go along with that agency's demand for pedestrian signals at the entrance to the park on Route 28.

Hartwick's summer program is a success
HARTWICK__ Supervisor Mary Balcom told everyone at the town board meeting held on Monday Aug. 13 that they were in for a treat before introducing Summer Youth Program Director Michelle Dibble, who was there to give a presentation on this year's program that served 66 kids.

The board of trustees has scheduled a public hearing on a proposal for a three-month moratorium on demolition permits.

Zebra mussel expert to speak
Dr. Tom Horvath, State University College at Oneonta's Director of Environmental Sciences and a world-renowned expert on zebra mussels, will present ``What to Expect Now That Zebra Mussels Have Invaded Otsego Lake" at an Otsego Lake Association informational meeting on Aug. 25 at 9 a.m. The meeting is open to the public.

Village approves new attorney for Bassett Hospital lawsuit
The village board voted to hire a special lead attorney to represent the village in an Article 78 proceeding that the village planning board improperly restricted the use of the parking lot at Harrison House when it approved Bassett Hospital's parking plan after four years of review.

Bass tournament helps raise funds for community center
RICHFIELD_A bass tournament on Sunday at the Canadarago Boat Launch helped raise money for a new building for the Richfield Springs ``Zone'' Community Center. The center is both a place for teenagers to hang out on Friday and Saturday nights, and a meeting place for area groups, said board member Bill Kosina.
