Waller will seek
her fourth term

Three-term village mayor Carol Waller announced
Monday night that she intends to seek
re-election.
Waller, flanked by Sen. James Seward and
her husband Bill, said she made the decision to
seek a fourth two-year term after lengthy discussions
with her husband.
She said her ability to run again depended
on three key people - village clerk Teri
Barown, her flower shop manager Claire Satriano,
and her husband.
"Without them I could not be mayor," she
told an audience of friends and supporters.
Bill Waller, who is also the chairman of the
village Republican committee, said in introductory
remarks that "seeing her do her job close
up for the last six years had been enlightening."
Seward quipped with the audience that not
all the political action was in Iowa. It was, he
said, an opportunity to recognize
the accomplishments of
Cooperstown's first woman
mayor.
He said his friend Rudy Giuliani
is often referred to as
America's Mayor, but "I think
Carol Waller is really American's
Mayor."
Seward has worked with
Waller first during her eight
years as a village trustee and for the last six
years as mayor.
"I'm very impressed with all of Carol
Waller's accomplishments and work," he said.
He spoke of her key role in the planning for
last summer's record-setting crowd for the Hall
of Fame Induction.
"Not only was she a leader;
I saw a picture of her sweeping
the streets," he said.
Seward also credited Waller
with her work on the Village
Gateway Project, renovation
of the village library building
and opening up village government
to input from residents.
"As mayor, she has been a
true advocate for the village
and its residents. There's no
question Carol cares very
deeply about the village of
Cooperstown and its residents,"
Seward said.
