Winter Carnival has pirate theme
The seventh annual Carnival
Fireworks display will
start Winter Carnival weekend
off with a boom at 6:30
p.m. on Friday, Feb. 8 at Lake
Front Park,
The "Parade of Pirates” will
step off at 10 a.m. on Saturday,
Feb. 9, beginning from
the intersection of Main Street
and Railroad Avenue, and
make its way down Main
Street, ending in Cooper
Park.
"In the past the parade has
been held on Friday night of
Winter Carnival, as a kickoff
to the weekend,” said parade
Co-Chair Amanda Pinney.
"This year the committee decided
to hold it during the day,
so that the floats can be better
viewed, and hopefully the
weather will be a little warmer.”
In keeping with Winter
Carnival's pirate theme, the
parade will be dubbed the "Parade
of Pirates.”
All community organizations,
businesses and local
residents are encouraged to
join the parade, the press release
said. Entries may include
marchers, bands, floats,
boats, bikes, trikes, cars,
trucks and other vehicles.
A pirate theme for each
unit is encouraged. In addition,
all past Carnival chairpersons
are invited to ride in
the parade on an antique fire
truck. Interested individuals
are directed to report to the
corner of Main and Railroad at
9:15 a.m. the day of the parade.
The parade will be judged,
with prizes including $125 for
first place, $75 for second, and
$50 for third.
Those interested in entering
the parade may contact
Pinney at 547-0329 daily between
9 a.m. and 5 p.m.
Sponsorships from local
businesses are also being
sought for the parade.
"The parade is an excellent
way to support a great community
event while bringing
exposure to your business at
the same time,” Pinney said.
Committee members include
Teri Barown, Co-Chair;
Donna Borgstrom, Co-Chair;
Scott Barton; Geoff Bell; Peter
Deysenroth; Dan Evans;
