Clean up planned
at Memory Garden

Faculty, staff and students have volunteered to meet for a fall clean up in the Cooperstown Central School Memory Garden and community members are being encouraged to come help as well.
Jean Wyckoff, member of the Memory Garden committee, said participation in the clean up is a positive way to enhance the school.
``We could really use the help,’’ she said. ``It will also give people the opportunity to see what we are doing.’’
The fall clean up will take place on Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon. Volunteers are asked to bring their own gloves, towels, or preferred garden tools for weeding and edging. Beverages and snacks will be provided to volunteers.
The garden was created three years ago after the school was hit with tragedies of death and is located at the entrance to the high school, opposite the bus garage.
Before laying the Memory Walk, a fund raiser will begin today and continue through Nov. 16. The committee is trying to raise enough money to purchase the materials necessary to install proper drainage as well as pavers for the Memory Walk.
According to the press release, $3,000 has been raised, but the cost of the walk and drainage is estimated to about $6,000.
Wyckoff says the Memory Walk itself will consist of both dedicated and undedicated pavers. A number of dedicated pavers have already been purchased in honor of students, faculty, staff and community members now deceased and who were closely associated with the school.
Anyone interested in making a general donation to the Memory Garden may make check payable to CCS Memory Garden and send them to the school with the attention to Jean Wyckoff. Anyone interested in purchasing a dedicated paver contact Michele Townsend for a form.
The dedicated pavers cost $55 and are granite with space for three lines of engraving. The telephone number for the high school is 547-8181. Forms will also available prior to the school play starting this evening and continuing through Nov. 10. Forms will also be available during lunch periods form Nov. 13-16.
Wyckoff said drainage for the walk should be done next spring. She expects construction to begin in the summer.
