CCS reacts to MRSA concerns
Staff Report
Recently, there have been
many news reports regarding
instances of Methicillin-Resistant
Staphylococcus Aureus
(MRSA), and in reaction to the
outbreaks, Cooperstown Superintendent
Mary Jo McPhail
has sent a letter to district
parents and guardians.
The letter was dated Oct.
23, and McPhail says the purpose
of the letter is to provide
information about MRSA and
assure that the district is taking
all necessary precautions
to safeguard students and
staff.
In addition to the daily
cleaning of locker rooms and
bathrooms, the school will be
installing hand sanitizer dispensers
in specific locations in
both the elementary and middle/
high school buildings. The
letter says careful hand cleansing
is known to be the single
most effective way to control
the spread of MSRA.
Also, CCS is providing written
information to coaches and
athletes as the school prepares
for the winter interscholastic
athletic season.
"A proactive and informed
community/school is our goal,"
said McPhail in the letter.
