Michelle Miller joins Crier staff
Staff Report
Michelle Miller, 22, joined
the Crier staff Tuesday as a
general assignment news reporter.
Miller recently graduated
from Utica College with a
degree in public relations/journalism.
Miller grew up in Pittsfield,
N.Y. and graduated from Morris
Central School. She was
born at A.O. Fox hospital in
1984, the first of two children
of Terry and Lisa Miller.
Michelle just moved to the
outskirts of Cooperstown so
the opening at the Crier was a
perfect fit.
"I was excited to be able to
find a job so quick after graduation,"
said Miller. "It was also
a plus to find something so
close to where I live. I have
grown up around the Coopers
town area, so it should be fun
writing about local news and
events."
In college, Miller knew
right away she wanted to be a
journalism major.
She immediately asked to
be employed at the college
newspaper as part of a workstudy
program, and she gradually
worked up the ladder to
become editor-in-chief.
Last year she launched the
college paper's first Web site.
Miller has had two communication
internships, one at
the Utica Observer-Dispatch
in the sports department and
the other at Preferred Mutual
Insurance Company in the
corporate communications department.
"We feel fortunate to have
someone with Michelle's credentials
join the Crier team,"
said Crier co-editor Eric
Ahlqvist. "She should be able
to hit the ground running."
Miller's family races Standardbred
horses, which may
explain her passion for horses.
In her free time, Miller likes to
go horseback riding, play
sports, and cheering on her favorite
baseball team, the New
York Yankees.
"You either hate them or
you love them," said Miller
about the Bombers.
"I am really looking forward
to working and living in
the area," she added. "It is
truly a great honor to be a part
of the Crier staff and I am
looking forward to being able
to get to work with the local
community more closely."
