CV board schedules comp plan hearing

Staff Report

CHERRY VALLEY _ The town board of Cherry Valley will hold a public hearing on the proposed comprehensive plan on Monday at 6 p.m. in the CV Community Center on Genesee street.

Draft copies of the plan are available for review by appointment by calling town clerk Mary Beth Flint at 264-3986.

Questions about the plan can be referred to town supervisor Tom Garretson before Monday by calling 264-9045.

The hearing will extend through Thursday, May 9 for written comments. Mailed statements must be received by the end of business May 9 and can be sent to Town Clerk of Cherry Valley, P.O. Box 401, Cherry Valley NY 13320.

According to a draft copy of the plan, the town’s vision statement reads "it is our vision that Cherry Valley retains and enhances its unique historical, scenic and agricultural character, and that a compatible degree of growth and development be accepted, subject to those standards, necessary to maintain these irreplaceable historical and natural features while assuring that the location and design of any development be in the best interest of the overall, health safety and general welfare of the community as well as the neighborhood for which it is proposed."

Comprehensive plans are not laws themselves, but all local laws passed after the adoption of a comprehensive plan must be compatible with the plan. According to the draft copy, comprehensive plans "set forth a community’s goals and recommended actions that will make the community a good place to live, work and visit."
