Milford Winterfest is this Saturday at MCS

MILFORD _ The stage is set for a fun-filled family weekend in Milford as the 2007 Winterfest will take place Saturday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. inside and around Milford Central School.
The event kicks off at 8 a.m. with America’s Greatest Heart Run & Walk and concludes at 6 p.m. with the Polar Bear Jump Chinese Auction to benefit local families and organizations in need.
Outdoor festivities include a snowman building competition from 9-3 p.m., snow tubing from 1-3 p.m. and ice cream making from 2-3 p.m. The ice cream is made outdoors by combining several ingredients in a sealed coffee can and then kicking the can around to combine them.
Indoor activities include a "Kool Kids" concert at 10 a.m., access to a game and puzzle room from 11 -1 p.m., Jeopardy at 11 a.m., face painting from 11 -1 p.m., a FOTA craft room featuring "edible art" from noon to 1 p.m. and the ever-popular "Milford Feud" from 12:30 -1:30 p.m.
Throughout the day there will also be sporting events, beginning with a fifth and sixth-grade girls basketball game at 8:30 a.m. At 10 a.m. there will be a modified basketball game, from noon to 1 p.m. foul shot and 3 point-shooting games, indoor soccer from 12:30-1:30 p.m. for grades K-4 and a cross-generational volleyball tournament from 1-4 p.m.
Each team entering the volleyball tournament must include at least one middle school student or younger, one high school student, one over-35 adult and one adult younger than 35. Both genders must be represented on the court at all times.
Vendors will be selling food and other items throughout the day in the school and several events focus on the tastier side of things.
The Milford Fire Department will kick off the day’s feeding frenzy with a pancake breakfast in the cafeteria from 8:30-10 a.m. and the Milford Rotary keeps it going with a chicken barbeque from 11-12:30 p.m.
There will also be a chili cook-off from 11:30-12:30 p.m., where participants taste the entries and award prizes to the top three finishers. Entries must be brought to the cafeteria by 10:45 a.m. Also from 1-2 p.m., there will be a "death-by-chocolate" competition in the cafeteria.
Throughout the day, FOTA will be selling raffle tickets for a chance to win a "Cook’s Night In," a catered dinner for up to eight people in which cooks will prepare and serve a meal in the winner’s own home.
Three teams are participating in the Run & Walk, which raises money for the American Heart Association. The teams are CIA Team (Community in Action), captained by Kevin Stevens, FOTA Team (Friends of the Arts) captained by Jeanne Knowles and the Healthy Milford team, captained by Sabine Curry.
