CV-S capital project meeting is tonight
Staff Report
The Cherry Valley-Springfield Central School board of education and district residents will have an opportunity to hear more about an estimated $8 million capital project at the board’s monthly business meeting tonight.
The Community Advisory Council _ a BOE-appointed committee made up of residents, parents, teachers, instructional support personnel, administrators and BOE members _ will present its proposal and make a recommendation to the board about the project tonight.
The meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. in room 145.
The CAC has been working since October to put together a potential capital project designed to take advantage of $470,000 in state funds made available to CV-S through the Expanding Our Children’s Education and Learning (EXCEL) Capital Program.
Superintendent Nicholas Savin said the estimated figures put the local share of the project at approximately $60,000 a year for 15 years over the life of the project.
However with estimated energy savings of about $30,000 and office efficiency savings of $10,000 a year, Savin said the CAC estimates a net impact of $20,000 per year, or $300,000 over 15 years.
He said the council has broken down the various items needing attention in the school into several key categories, which include safety and security, structural and maintenance, energy efficiency, educational excellence and student and community services.
In a press release, the district encouraged community members to attend tonight’s meeting to hear the presentation, ask questions and comment on the proposal.
"I believe that the CAC has worked very earnestly to put forth a recommendation that they believe is in the district’s best interest," Savin said.
