Bicentennial events begin Jan. 22

The first event in the village’s bicentennial celebration is a reception scheduled for Mon., Jan. 22.
Village trustee Grace Kull, who chairs the bicentennial committee, said the reception will include a proclamation from mayor Carol Waller declaring 2007 the bicentennial year in celebration of the 200th anniversary of the incorporation of the village.
Kull said Senator James Seward is expected to make a presentation.
Following the opening ceremony, there will a champagne reception with music provided by the Native Sons Jazz Trio.
The reception is from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the third floor ballroom of the municipal building. All village residents are invited to attend the reception.
The next bicentennial event will take place in April. It will feature a special stamp cancellation from the post office on April 3, the date of the incorporation of the village 200 years ago.
On April 21, there will be a reception featuring a history exhibit created by students from the Cooperstown Graduate Program and a lecture by village historian Hugh MacDougall.
A bicentennial parade is planned for September 8.
