Stroll set for Saturday

The sounds of sleigh bells and carolers will fill the air on Saturday, Dec. 9 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Third Annual Cooperstown Christmas Stroll.

Hundreds of luminaries will light the way for groups of carolers who will gather around wood fires along Main Street. Santa will be in his cottage while outdoors horse drawn wagons will be giving free rides leaving from Pioneer Park.

Period photographer Lady Ostapeck is outfitting Victorian Strollers who will be out and about around town and in shops and restaurants in their period garb.

The evening will begin with a pet parade sponsored by the SSPCA. It will form at the Fire Hall at 4 p.m. and leave from the stop light at 4:30. Everyone is encouraged to bring their pet along for the stroll. A donation of food or money is requested for animals at the SSPCA. Register by calling 547-8111 or on the evening of the events.

New this year are free children’s activities at the Fire Hall. Children ages four through 12 may come to the hall, where Mrs. Santa will tell stories, and crafts, movies and games will be available. Registration for this event is requested. To register, call the Chamber at 547-9983. Children are welcome from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m.

From 5 to 7 p.m., horse drawn rides will leave from Pioneer Park. Hot cider will be available at the kiosk, and Santa will be in his cottage. Carolers will be at wood fires at the corner of Fair and Main streets, across from the Doubleday Field entrance and at the corner of Main and Chestnut streets.

There will be wine tasting at Cooperstown Wine and Spirits. The Cooperstown field hockey team will wrap packages at Vet’s Club. Victorian Strollers will be throughout downtown, and a Living Nativity by the Community Bible Church will be on the Library Lawn. At 7 p.m., there will be community caroling at the library.

Shops will be open, and refreshments will be available at Muskrat Hill, Gil Gallery, Tin Bin Alley, The Factory Store, Ellsworth and Sill, and others.

Main Street will be closed to parking. Doubleday Field lot and the county lots on Chestnut, Main and Leatherstocking will be open for parking.

For more information, call the Chamber of Commerce at 547-9983.
