Preservation winners named
Staff Report
The Village of Cooperstown recently announced the recipients of its 2004-2006 Planning Board Historic Preservation Awards.
The winners were selected by members of the planning board, who made the presentations Tuesday evening.
``Giving out these awards is our award,’’ said planning board chairwoman Teresa Drerup. ``This is something we enjoy doing _ recognizing people who do a good job with their property.’’
Award winners include:
Municipal Stewardship _ Robert Busse, for village parks and plantings.
Restoration _ Richard and Rosemarie Abbate, 211 Main St. and Tom and Jean Lyon, 8 Eagle St., for front porch restoration; Mr. and Mrs. Christopher Franck, 204 Main St., for the old D&H passenger station; the Mohican Club, 138 Main St. for roof restoration and dormer removal; and Kathleen and James Leonardo, 83 Chestnut St., for brick restoration work.
Reconstruction _ Clara Welch Thanksgiving Home, Patricia Donnelly, administrator, 48 Grove St.
Preservation _ Joseph Ferrara, 99 Main St., for terra cotta tile replacement and repointing; Christ Church, Rev. Sam Abbott, rector, 69 Fair St., for exterior/ interior of the church and St. Agnes Chapel; Leatherstocking Corp., 19 Main St., for exterior painting and stone work (David Sanford); and the United Methodist Church, 66 Chestnut St., for stained glass windows.
New Construction _ Dianne and Tim Feury, 4 Chestnut St. for detached garage; and Christ Church, 69 Fair St., for columbarium.
Signage _ "Templeton Hall," 63 Pioneer St., Lucy Townsend; and "1805 Phinney House," 14 Elm St., Charlene and Jim Vrooman.
Rehabilitation _ Tim Horvath, builder and Sally Cox, current owner, 65 Elm St., restoration and addition; Joseph Galati, 44 Walnut St., restoration of "men’s clubhouse" and new garage; Jane Forbes Clark, 64 Pioneer St., restoration of "Beasley School" and added porch; Natasha and Randal Scharf, 33 Lake St., for rear porch addition; Mary and Paul Kuhn, 51 Chestnut St., for front entry and porch addition; Ivy and Edward Bischof, 46 Delaware St., for addition to "4-square" residence; Noel and Eric Hage, 36 Nelson Ave., for addition to residence; Johna Smith, 32 Elm St., for siding and trim replacement and deck; Ashley and Shelby Cooper, 14 Lake St., for siding, windows, shutters, and portico; the National Baseball Hall of Fame & Museum, Dale Petroskey, president, 33 Main St., for front/ side entrance, scoreboard, park, and statues; Cornell Cooperative Extension, 123 Lake St., for entrance redesign; and Thomas and Alison Novack, 83 Pioneer St., for porch redesign and rear addition.
