Board schedules public hearings
By JIM AUSTIN

The village board has scheduled a public hearing to establish three additional downtown loading zones.
The loading zones are part of a larger effort the police committee has been working on to alleviate congestion in the downtown area.
Committee chairman Paul Kuhn asked the mayor to schedule the hearing for the Dec. board meeting.
The three proposed loading zones are:
on the east side of Pioneer St. from Main St. north to Stagecoach Lane.
on the west side of Pioneer St. from Main St. north to the alley behind Main St.
on the north side of Main St. east of the crosswalk extending from CVS to Danny’s Market.
The two Pioneer St. zones would be for loading from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. only. The remainder of the day they would revert to regular parking.
The Main St. zone would be for all day loading and unloading.
Kuhn said merchants in the areas around the proposed zones have all thought the additional loading zones would be a good idea.
The hearing will be Dec. 18 at 9 p.m.
The board also scheduled a public hearing in regard to traffic fines. The fines were raised recently from $20 to $35 and now the law is to be amended to have the minimum fine double after 30 days if unpaid and double again if still unpaid after 60 days. The amendment will remove any discretion from the calculation of how much is owed.
The trustees approved a request from Bassett Hospital vice-president Joe Middleton to install a telephone at the blue trolley lot so that employees may call the shuttle bus to request a ride.
The phone will linked directly to the hospital’s call center and may also be used in the event of an emergency. Bassett will work with the town of Otsego planning board on lighting for the area.
The lights would be on a timer that would shut off after 10 p.m.
Bassett will pay all expenses.
