Roof bids higher than expected
Staff Report
The board of trustees is looking for additional funding for the roof and skylight project for the library building.
There was a bid opening last week that came in higher than expected. The total was more than $500,000, according to Paul Kuhn, who recently took over the chairmanship of the streets and buildings committee.
``The building has been let go for so many years,’’ he said during Monday’s meeting. ``It’s not going to last much longer. We have to address this in the next year or two.’’
One place the village may come up with some money is from two earlier state grants originally intended to fund a new restroom facility on Main St.
A $50,000 grant from Assemblyman Bill Magee may be able to be redirected to the roof and skylight project as well as another similar grant from Senator James Seward that was awarded to the Chamber of Commerce for the bathroom project.
According to Kuhn, chamber director Polly Renckens said she would have to first poll her board of directors about the disposition of the grant funds before agreeing to using it for the roof.
The bathroom project has been stalled since bids for the facility also came back higher than expected.
Kuhn said former committee chairman Glenn Hubbell told him there was approximately $192,000 in a reserve fund for the building.
``We’ll need some help from somewhere,’’ Kuhn said.
