Hubbell resigns, Taugher uncertain about running

Cooperstown Crier

Staff Report

Village trustee Glenn Hubbell has decided to step down and Stuart Taugher is undecided about seeking another term.

Hubbell said his resignation, which was announced last week, was effective Nov. 8.

The resignation, due to health issues, comes as he nears the end of his second three-year term on the board of trustees.

He currently serves as deputy mayor and is chair of the finance, streets and buildings and fire committees.

``I think the village is in good hands. If I didn’t think it was, I wouldn’t being doing this,’’ he said this week.

Mayor Carol Waller said Tuesday she is looking for someone interested in completing the remainder of his term.

``If the right person comes along, I will appoint them,’’ she said.

The mayor said she is really not interested in someone who would just fill in until the election, but is hoping to find someone who wants to be appointed to the board and was willing to run for a new term in March.

Waller said Hubbell will be missed on the board.

``He was incredibly hard-working, honest and always spoke his mind,’’ she said. ``He was a wonderful trustee and deputy mayor.

The mayor said she has asked trustee Paul Kuhn to takeover as chair of the finance and streets and buildings committees as well as deputy mayor until an appointment is made or the election is over. Jeff Katz will become the chair of the fire committee.

Also up for election in March is senior village board member Stuart Taugher.

``I doubt if I will, but I haven’t decided yet,’’ he said when asked if he would seek another term.

Taugher has been a familiar face in local government having served as village mayor in 1969-70, ten years on the county board representatives and more than 20 years on the village board.

During that time he has served on most, if not all, of the various village boards and committees. He is currently the chairman of the board of water commissioners.
