Second concert also a twin bill

It looks like this year's concert at Doubleday Field will again feature two headliners - this time John Fogerty and John Mellencamp.
Concert committee chairwoman Lee Malone said Monday afternoon that it now looks like the two veteran performers will be playing in concert on Doubleday Field on Friday, Aug. 12.
Last year, the village hosted its first concert on the historic baseball diamond with Bob Dylan and Willie Nelson. The success of that concert and the public's positive response led the board of trustees to pursue another event this summer.
Malone said the village is again working with JAM Productions, which was the promoter for last year's concert. She said the village had talked to Don Sullivan at JAM Productions about bringing James Taylor to Cooperstown, but that now appears unlikely. If it was to happen, Malone said, it would require a second concert in June when Taylor may be available.
The concert committee is planning its first meeting later this month to begin organizing for the summer concert. Many of the same individuals and organizations who helped out last year are on board again, she said.
Malone said that although last year's first outing went well, there were lessons the village learned that they will incorporate into plans for the August concert.
"We have to work on Elm Street. We'll have to be a little more aware," she said, referring to the tractor trailers which were parked on the street with engines idling.
Mayor Carol Waller said Tuesday that she has two big concerns about the concert. One is that the Chamber of Commerce can again sell tickets so they will be more readily available to residents and that the tickets be priced reasonably.
"I really want it to be for the locals," she said.
Waller said there were other performers who may have been available, but ticket prices would be much higher.
The Mellencamp/Fogerty concert tickets should be priced about the same as last year's tickets, she said, adding that Don Sullivan of JAM Productions said he believed the pair would draw a good crowd.
Fogerty will be remembered by many as one of the members of Creedence Clearwater Revival, a popular band in the 1960s and early 70s which produced many hit albums and was one of the headline acts at Woodstock in 1969. The band broke up in 1972.
His new album "Deja Vu All Over Again" was released recently and he will be performing live at the Super Bowl Tailgate Party on Sunday, Feb. 6, on Fox Television.
John Mellencamp, who also recorded under the name Johnny Cougar and John Cougar Mellencamp, is a product of middle America, having grown up in Seymour, Indiana. He began his recording career in the 1970s and in 1982 his songs "Hurts So Good" and "Jack and Diane" became hits. He eventually recorded 10 Top 10 hits.
A collection of 35 of his biggest songs called "Words and Music: John Mellencamp's Greatest Hits" was released recently.
Mellencamp also has a new single out called "Walk Tall."
