Hall considering fantasy baseball program this fall

National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum officials think there are plenty of people who would step up to the plate - and pay for - a chance to play ball with some Hall of Famers.
In addition to the Hall of Fame game and Induction Weekend, the museum has asked the village to set aside some extra dates for Doubleday Field in September and October for what may its first foray into fantasy baseball.
Hall of Fame spokesperson Jeff Idelson said Tuesday they have been doing some market research and are exploring the feasibility of beginning a program this year.
"Basically we feel there is a market for a fantasy camp with the Hall of Fame in Cooperstown," Idelson said.
Idelson said Hall officials are still discussing how a fantasy camp could be structured, but might include bringing in three to six Hall of Famers for the event.
The former major leaguers would offer lessons and tips to the adults that participate and then manage teams that would play each other on Doubleday Field.
The camp could be a complete package that would include lodging and meals at the Otesaga Hotel, golf, baseball on Doubleday Field and special events, such as a candlelit dinner at the Hall of Fame.
"Everything from soup to nuts," he said.
Idelson said they canvassed Hall of Famers who were "overwhelmingly positive" about the idea.
"What we have is above and beyond other camps. We have the cachet of Cooperstown, Doubleday Field, the Hall of Fame and Hall of Famers," he said.
Idelson aid he expects a decision about the future of a fantasy camp program will be made soon.
