Crier wins four NYPA awards
Staff Report
The CoopersTown Crier won four awards-one second place, one third place and two honorable mentions-at the New York Press Association's spring convention in Saratoga Springs last weekend.
The paper took home a second place award for coverage of local government. The judges singled out a story by Crier reporter Rita Ferrandino on the Hartwick bicentennial for being very well written and in-depth with "fabulous details."
Ferrandino won two awards for her weekly column, Ruminations. She won a third place award in the Best Humor Column category and an honorable mention for Best Column, while Crier columnist Jim Atwell won an honorable mention award for Best Humor Column with one of his From Fly Creek entries.
"Nice take on some engaging issues," the judges wrote about Ferrandino's humor columns.
In the six years the Town Crier has been eligible for the NYPA contest, it has won over 20 awards.
"It's always gratifying to have others confirm what we feel that the Crier in news, opinion and columns is the leader in the local area," said Town Crier Publisher Dan Swift. "My heartfelt congratulation to our staff and contributors for turning in fine work, week in and week out."
