Richfield winter carnival begins two week run

If you're looking for food and fun, the Richfield Springs Winter Carnival will take place from January 25-28 and on February 2, 3 and 4.
The festivities kick off on Thursday night with a Spaghetti Dinner from 5-8 at Richfield Springs Central School. The following night, there will be a Torchlight Parade at 7 p.m. at Kozak's Field. Chet Ainslie can be contacted for information at (315) 858-2639. A Bonfire at the Richfield Springs Landfill will follow a parade of snowmobilers. A band, Leather & Lace, will finish the night off at the Schuyler House from 9 p.m.-1 a.m.
The next morning will start off with a Snowmobile Poker Rally at the Genesee Restaurant from 9-11 a.m. The final drawing will be at 6 p.m. that night. Sign up from 11 a.m. to noon for the Pitch Tournament at the Millstone Restaurant.
Adults and children can go bowling at Richfield Lanes at 1 p.m. A Teen Dance will take place at 7 p.m. at the Richfield Springs Old Gym, and Leather & Lace will wrap the night up again at The Schuyler House from 9 p.m.-1 a.m.
Sunday, January 28 begins with Family Fun Days at the Gunset Snowmobile Obstacle Course at noon, with Tube Races to follow an hour later. A Snow Sculpture contest will be going on all over town throughout the day. For a $5 entry fee, sign up at 9 a.m. at the Park Inn for a Snowmobile Scavenger Hunt.
The second weekend of the carnival will be as packed with activities as the first, starting on Friday, February 2 with a dinner dance at the Vet's Club.
A buffet dinner from 7-9 p.m. will be sponsored by Sherry's Restaurant, and Mitsy & the Beat Mongers will play from 9 p.m. to 1- a.m.
Making advanced arrangements for the event will save you a couple of bucks. Tickets are $13 in advance and $15 at the door. Tickets are sold at local establishments. For more information, call Mike Percell at (315) 858-8483.
Saturday's festivities are: Snowmobile Races at the Millstone Restaurant. Sign up between 9-11 a.m for the noon races. Mini sled race is a newly added class. For information, call Jason Purcell at (315) 858-2150 or Red Osterhoudt at (315) 858-0430.
Sign up at noon for the Pitch Tournament at the Genesee Restaurant. At 9 p.m. people over 12 can take part in Cosmic Bowling at the Richfield Lanes.
Lions' Club secretary and carnival organizer, Ralph Osterhoudt, said he expects several thousand revelers to attend from near and far. He said, "As always, it's fun to organize it and have the carnival. The weather looks like it's going to be pretty good for us this year."
The carnival will wind down on Sunday, February 4 with a Pancake Breakfast from 7:30 a.m. to noon at Richfield Springs Central School.
The famous "Snufferphlaggen" will take place at 1 p.m. at the Schuyler House Restaurant on Lake Street. Osterhoudt, who came up with the name, describes the event as a ski race against the clock on homemade two-by-four skis.
Wind Down, at 4 p.m. will take place at Genesee Restaurant with a buffet, followed by a raffle at 5 p.m.
